Belmond has a great opportunity for a Chef de Partie to join the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express team.

Location during the season : Venice, Paris, Amsterdam, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Bucharest and Istanbul.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE) is a luxury train service from London to Venice and other European cities.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is the most storied set of carriages in the world. It promises to take you not just across Europe, but to transport you back in time. With its polished wood, sumptuous upholstery and antique fixtures, the train epitomises the glamour and elegance of the Golden Age of travel.

The Chef de Partie will assist and support the Executive Chef/Sous Chef in food preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal preparation: Cooking and preparing food for each service.
  • Maintain safety, health and hygiene standards in the kitchen.
  • To maintain the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the kitchen, and all food storage and preparation areas.
  • Controls incoming goods and stores them in perfect conditions.
  • Monitors portion and waste control.
  • Maintains HACCP standards and complies with Food & Hygiene good practice, cleaning controls and any other railways related procedure
  • Performs any other task, within own competence, entrusted to them by the Train Manager.
  • Performs all duties assigned by the Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef.


  • Genuinely enthusiastic personality, professional & hardworking with the highest standard of presentation and ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution-focused.
  • Good command of English. Additional languages would be desirable.
  • Previous hospitality experience within a luxury environment.
  • Ability to communicate with guests in the luxury market to meet their individual needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Completion HACCP/HSSE course is desirable.
  • European or Swiss passport holder

Further information:

  • This is a seasonal position. The train runs between March to December.
  • This role is on-board an overnight train.
  • Full training will be given. The work undertaken will be done on a rolling rota system ensuring a fair amount of time for each team member in each role.
  • Required to work throughout the EU and Switzerland.
